Terms of Service

The terms for working with Glen Rock Web Studio: what $99 a month buys, how billing and cancelling work, and who owns what. They are written in plain English on purpose. If anything is unclear, ask before you agree.

1. Who these terms are for

These terms are an agreement between you, the business that signs up, and Glen Rock Web Studio ("we", "us"). You accept them when you tick the box at checkout, approve your website for launch or pay your first invoice, whichever comes first. If you are agreeing on behalf of a business, you confirm you are allowed to. The parts of these terms about this website itself (sections 12 to 14) apply to everyone who uses it.

2. What the plan includes

For $0 down and $99 a month you get a custom designed, hand-coded business website and everything it takes to run it:

  • A design you review on your phone and laptop before it goes live, revised until you are happy.
  • A standard business website of at least five pages, written by hand in HTML and CSS with no page builder and no plugins.
  • Hosting, an SSL certificate and daily backups.
  • Your domain: bought and renewed by us as part of the plan (section 7 has the details and the one limit) or, if you already own one, the records to point it at your new site.
  • Unlimited edits and 24/7 support, direct to the person who built your site (section 5).
  • Lifetime updates: the design, code and security kept current for as long as you are a client.
  • On-page and local SEO set up properly.

Online stores, booking, online ordering, member areas, integrations with other systems and unusually large sites are not part of the standard plan. Ask, and we will quote them separately in writing before any work starts. Once you accept a quote it becomes part of your plan on the terms in that quote.

3. Getting started, and our guarantee

You tell us about your business through our form, or we fill it in together on a call. We design and build the site and show it to you. You ask for changes and we make them. Most sites are ready about a week after we have what we need from you; missing photos or text push that back.

Love it or pay nothing. If we cannot build something you love before launch, you can walk away and you owe us nothing. Once you approve the site you sign up online, we take it live within a few days, and your plan runs from the day you signed up.

4. Billing

  • Your plan is $99 a month, plus anything you have accepted a quote for, billed monthly in advance from the day you sign up; your site goes live within a few days of that. Prices are in US dollars; sales tax is added where the law requires it.
  • You pay by card through our payment processor and payments renew automatically each month.
  • If a payment fails we will email you and try again. If it is still unpaid 14 days later we may take the site offline until it is settled. We will always get in touch before that happens, and your domain is never at risk over a bill (section 7).
  • If we ever change the monthly price we will tell you at least 30 days in advance, and the new price only applies from your next renewal after that. You can cancel before then and pay nothing more.
  • We do not refund partial months. When you cancel, your site stays up until the end of the period you have paid for and you are not charged again.

5. Unlimited edits and support

Edits are changes to your existing site: new text, photos, prices, hours, services, a new section or an extra page in the same design. They are all included for as long as you are a client, with no hourly bills. Email or message us and most edits are done the same day; bigger ones within a few business days, and we will tell you when to expect them.

Edits do not include new functionality such as a store, booking, online ordering, a member area or an integration with another system. Those are quoted separately (section 2). Unlimited means unlimited for your business's own site; it is not a licence to resell our time to other businesses.

24/7 support means you can reach us at any hour and we answer as quickly as we can, with a site that is down always coming first. We are a small studio, not a call centre, so for anything that is not urgent you will normally hear back within a business day.

6. Hosting, uptime and backups

We host your site on modern infrastructure with an SSL certificate and take daily backups. We aim to have it available around the clock and will fix any problem as fast as we can, but we cannot promise a site will never be down: our hosting, domain and email providers have outages of their own, and we occasionally need to do maintenance. We will let you know about anything planned that would affect you.

7. Your domain

If you do not have a domain, we register one for you as part of your plan and pay its renewals for as long as you are a client. That covers any ordinary domain, up to $50 a year. If the name you want costs more than that, for example a premium name or an unusual ending, we tell you the price first and you pay the difference at cost. It is your domain. If you ever leave, we transfer it to you or to a registrar of your choice at no charge; ask within the 30 days after your plan ends, and you take over the renewals from then on. If we do not hear from you in that time we stop renewing it and let it expire. If you already own a domain, it stays in your account and under your control; we give you the DNS records to point it at your site. We will never hold a domain hostage in a billing dispute.

8. Your content and your responsibilities

You provide the text, photos, logo and other material for your site and confirm that you own it or have permission to use it, including any customer reviews and photos of people. Stock photography we choose for you is licensed for your site.

You are responsible for what your site says about your business: prices, services, licences, qualifications and any claims the law regulates in your trade. Keep your contact and billing details with us current.

You will not use your site for anything illegal, deceptive, harmful or spammy. We can decline to publish content that is illegal or that we reasonably believe would harm someone, and in serious cases we can take a site offline after telling you why.

9. Who owns what

Yours: your content, your brand, your domain and the information about your business. We will give you a copy of your text and images on request, at any time.

Ours: the design and the code we write. While you are a client you have the right to use them for your site. They are part of the subscription, like the hosting, so if you leave, the site comes down at the end of your paid period and the design and code stay with us. We may show your site in our portfolio and say that you are a client; email us if you would rather we did not.

10. Cancelling

By you. Email us at any time. There is no notice period and no cancellation fee. Your site stays up until the end of the period you have paid for and for 30 days after that, in case you change your mind or need time to move. We offer to transfer your domain (section 7) and keep a backup of the site for those 30 days, then take the site down and delete it.

By us. We can end your plan if a bill stays unpaid after the process in section 4, if your site is used in a way section 8 does not allow, or if we stop offering the service. In the last case we will give you at least 30 days' notice and do what we reasonably can to help you move.

11. Referral credits

  • If a business signs up through a client's referral link, its first month is free.
  • Once that business makes its first paid monthly payment, the client who referred it gets one month of their own plan free, as a credit on their next invoice. That is one credit for each business referred, with no limit. A credit larger than one invoice carries over to the next.
  • Credits have no cash value, cannot be transferred and are not paid out when you cancel. A business cannot refer itself or another business it owns or runs.
  • We may change or end the referral program. Credits you have already earned stay on your account.

12. What we do not promise

We set up every site to be fast and properly readable by search engines, and that is what gets a local business found. But we do not sell link-building packages and we do not promise page-one rankings, a certain amount of traffic or a certain number of customers. Search engines change their rules and we do not control them. Services you use alongside your site, such as Google Business Profile, payment processors or booking tools, run under their own terms.

13. Liability

We take our work seriously, but we are a small studio. If something goes wrong because of us, the most we are liable for is the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the problem. We are not liable for indirect losses such as lost sales, lost profits or reputational harm, for data you never gave us a copy of, or for things outside our control such as outages at our providers, an attack we took reasonable care to prevent, or events like natural disasters. If your content or the way you use your site leads to a claim against us, for example a photo you did not have the rights to, you will cover our costs. Nothing in these terms limits any liability the law does not allow us to limit.

14. Changes, governing law and contact

We may update these terms. If a change affects existing clients we will email them at least 30 days before it takes effect, and continuing with your plan after that date means you accept it. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, United States. If we have a disagreement we will talk first; anything we cannot settle goes to the courts of New Jersey.
